Sloth: Resisting the Demands of Love
July 16, 2023 Pastor: Pastor James Wychers Series: Slaying the Dragon: The Roots and Remedies of Sin
Topic: Sin
We’ve been digging below the surface and exposing root sins of the heart that are revealed in our actions and the sinful patterns that prevent us from finding true hope, joy, and satisfaction in God and what he has provided. Unless we deal with these root sins, we cannot find true and lasting joy in our lives no matter how hard we try. True hope and lasting joy are really not found in the things of the earth.
Today we look at sloth. Sloth is a heart-level indifference that keeps us from the hard work of knowing God and the hard work of growing in Christ. The problem with sloth is not what you think it is. We immediately think of laziness. It’s more than that. It’s much more prodigious because it dampens the heart towards God.
It creates a spiritual apathy and indifference within us. This may be the hardest one to understand and detect within us.
We’re going to see that the Christian life is actually a pressing journey to know and to follow Christ. This journey involves our active effort of moving forward. So, in this journey we will experience God’s fulfilling grace and His purposes for us because God does have purposes for us.
