In today’s sermon, Pastor James teaches us how a church should contend for the faith, focusing on Jude 1:17-23. He reminds us that false teaching will appear in every church - the real questions are whether we'll notice it and what we'll do about it. While we may think we've moved beyond false teaching, messages contrary to biblical truth creep into our churches through false teachers with bad theology, media, social platforms, and various other channels.

To contend for the faith effectively, we need to do three key things:

First, we must remember the apostles' teachings about false teachers. We've been properly warned that there will be scoffers who mock God's truths and follow their own desires. When false teachers divide the church, we need to understand that it's not sound doctrine that divides - it's bad doctrine and false teaching that create divisions.

Second, we must devote ourselves to growth by keeping ourselves in God's love. This involves building ourselves up in faith as a community, praying in the Holy Spirit, and waiting with hope for Christ's return. Pastor James emphasizes that both God's keeping power and our active participation matter - we won't grow unless we actively seek growth.

Third, we must reach out to others who are in spiritual danger. There are three categories of people we need to help: those who doubt (requiring mercy), those near the fire of judgment (needing to be snatched away), and those with sin-stained garments (requiring careful, fearful mercy). This ministry requires real relationships that go beyond surface-level interactions.

Pastor James concludes by reminding us that Christianity is communal - we can't grow apart from genuine relationships with other believers. We need to move beyond shallow connections and be willing to engage with others at a deeper, more meaningful level. Our hope lies in the gospel of Jesus Christ, which can transform our sin-stained garments into the pure garments of salvation.
