Celebration of a Humble King
April 10, 2022 Speaker: Pastor James Wychers Series: Celebration of a Humble King
Topic: Palm Sunday Passage: Luke 19:35–40
“Aim at heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in.’
Aim at earth and you will get neither.”
C.S. Lewis
Where will we aim this morning?
If we orient our lives toward acquiring the things of the earth, we’ll actually get neither. If we orient ourselves to the things of heaven, our earth and our heaven will be transformed.
We get both that way.
How are we oriented? What are we oriented toward? The things of heaven or the things of earth?
Holy Week helps us reorient ourselves in a heavenly way. It’s really the most profound climatic week in all of history. Not 2022, but 2000 years ago when these things happened. It’s the greatest week in all of history.
This morning we’re going to look at the events of Palm Sunday and consider how we might set our hearts on the things of heaven, on Jesus and what his triumphal entry says about him and what it says about us, as well.
We will see that Jesus is the humble king who transcended earthly expectations by bringing peace with God.
It’s going to be a challenge to us to set aside our expectations and think well about the purposes of Jesus and why he came to see his glory revealed and to see the danger in rejecting Him and not seeing him rightly.
Ultimately, I hope we’ll set our minds on the glory of the King, the glory of King Jesus. That’s really the highest aspiration I have. That we can sing for joy of the peace of God, and the salvation he brings.
This is something to celebrate today.
