El Shaddai

October 20, 2019 Speaker: Pastor David Lovi Series: Genesis 12-25: The Life of Abraham

Topic: Abraham Passage: Genesis 17:1–17:8

El Shaddai -min

Almost everyone's name in the Bible has a great significance! Typically one's name is related to either an attribute or the person's character. (Peter means "Rock", David means "Beloved", Moses means "To Draw Out", Jacob means "Heel Grabber", and so on.) As we learned when we studied the end of Genesis 11, Abram's name means "Exalted Father" which of course was ironic because at that time he was childless. But in this text we are going to see the revelation of two names we have not seen prior - God reveals himself to Abram by the Name "El Shaddai", and he changes Abram's name to Abraham! Both of these have tremendous importance in our own understanding of God and His plan.
