God Rescues the Faltering Faithful

Until this point in our study of the life of God’s servant Abram in Genesis 12 we’ve seen a man who displayed great faith in God and who obeyed God’s voice and call on his life and he believed that God’s promises were true. That the Lord was going to make this old man into a great nation, that He would bless him, that He would cause him to be a blessing to all people.

The Puritan John Flavell (1681) wrote: “The best of men are men at best.” In Abram’s case this also is true.

In the text we come to today, Genesis 12:10-13:4, we’re going to see the first major trial Abram faces when he is in the Promised Land. He does not handle it very well. The one whom the apostle calls the father of all who believe in Romans 4:11 sometimes struggled with his faith.

We can learn from his life and struggle.
