The Response to Jesus and His Work

October 8, 2017 Speaker: Pastor David Lovi Series: The Gospel of Matthew

Passage: Matthew 9:27–9:34

The Response to Jesus and His Work(1)

The Response to Jesus and His Work

For the last ten weeks in our study of Matthew’s gospel, we’ve been shown an overwhelming display of miraculous deeds that Christ has done.

In Matthew 5-7, Jesus delivers the Sermon on the Mount and spoke as no man ever did. In Matthew 8-9 Jesus did miraculous things that no one else in history ever did.

As the crowds will acknowledge in our passage today, they said, “Never was anything seen like this in Israel.”

And so all these things we’ve been learning about beg the question: What is the appropriate response to Jesus and His work?

The answer to that question is obvious. The appropriate response of creatures to their creator is adoration and worship and obedience. However, sinful man rarely displays the appropriate response to Jesus Christ.

In our passage today, we’re going to see these two positions of obedience and disobedience—soft-hearted worship and hard-hearted rejection juxtaposed against each other.

We must ask ourselves: Into which camp do I fall?

The evidence of who Jesus is is right here in front of us. May the Lord open our eyes and ears and hearts to believe it.
