1 John 3:4–3:10
A young man once asked a preacher, “You say that unsaved people carry a weight of sin but I feel nothing. How heavy is sin exactly? Is it ten pounds? Eighty pounds?”
The preacher replied by asking the youth a question:
“If you laid a five hundred pound weight on a dead corpse, would if feel the load?”
The young man replied, “It would feel nothing because it is dead.”
The preacher said, “That spirit too is indeed dead which has felt no load of sin or is indifferent to its burden or careless about its presence.”
Have you ever felt what that young man could not feel?
Or is sin something which is very easy and light and easy to ignore in your life?
In our passage today, we’re going to learn what sin is. What God’s remedy for sin is and how we must live in accordance with that.
I think that being in a church, especially being in a church that preaches the Word of God and we learn about sin all the time and I talk about sin all the time . . . It’s really the biggest problem the world has. It’s at the root of all our problems is really rebellion against God; sin is the root and that manifests itself in different ways . . . sometimes being in a bible church preaching about sin, we could come to church servie when the message is about sin, and sort of turn our brains off and say, I already know what sin is I don’t need to listen to this anymore.
As I was meditating about this passage this week, I realized I need to learn more about what sin is and what the only remedy for sin is.
Satan is so deceptive and makes us forget the fundamental truths of the faith. We forget it and almost take these things for granted so what I would ask you to do right now,
As I pray for us, ask the Lord, help me not to inoculated to the truths of the scripture
Help me listen with fresh ears and an open heart and a heart that has good soil, the word would come in and be planted and bear a crop.
Even though I know what sin is and I know he always talks about it, and I could tell you, I bet anybody could tell you. . . What’s the remedy for sin?
We know it We know it. There might be a tendency to play your Candy Crush. Don’t do it. Listen to what the Lord has to say today.
Perhaps it can even change your life.
