The Crown of Thorns

The Crown of Thorns

Apr 14, 2017/ Good Friday
Pastor David Lovi
Scripture: Matthew 27:27–27:31

Tonight we’re going to meditate on what occurred right before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ in Matthew 27:27–27:31.

The Roman governor Pontius Pilate had carried out the greatest miscarriage of justice in the history of the word by condemning the holy, righteous, innocent Lamb of God, Jesus Christ
to the most the most ignominious death ever devised by human hands—the death on the cross.

But before Jesus was crucified something else took place which illuminates not only the horror of Christ’s passion but also how the passion fulfilled the scripture.

The apostle Paul said, we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to the Gentiles and still he preached this message.

He knew that the cross is a stumbling block. He knew that the message of the cross is folly to the Gentiles yet he still preached it.

He knew that the cross is the only way of salvation for mankind. The death of Jesus Christ is the only ransom available to sinners.

On this Good Friday, let’s meditate on what Jesus has done for us.
