An Advocate With the Father
Passage: 1 John 2:1–2:2
An Advocate with the Father

If you’ve been paying attention, you may have noticed a dilemma. On the one hand, John tells us that if we say we have fellowship with God, but we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
On the other hand, he says, if we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and his Truth is not in us.
So, how do we reconcile these two things, which really are the universal Christian dilemma?
We don’t want to sin. We’re free from our sin, the Bible says so. Yet, we are still struggling with sin. We’ll struggle with it all our life.
Isn’t that universal?
We’re going to see Apostle Paul was the same. John was the same. He’s addressing Christians. He’s addressing all of us.
There’s this tension almost. We see it in the text. He wants to explain it to us, to show us the meaning of it.
Why do we still struggle with our sins?
In our passage today from 1 John 2: 1-2, we’ll not only dig into the answer, we’ll also see our only solution to our sin problem as a whole—our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only solution to our greatest need.
Let us turn our hearts to Him now and ask Him, through the Spirit to speak to us.
